Soul Sonics

Free workshops for students with interests in music, multimedia and technology

Musical Futures are offering free music production workshops in schools as part of the Challenge and Enrichment Series which provides extension activities across for high-ability students from schools across Victoria.
Participating students will record sounds from their surroundings and use these to make music through contemporary production processes and  production tools used widely in the music and creative industries such as film, TV, gaming, podcasting and the creation of content for social media.

The workshop culminates in the performance of these original works.

Details
  • Workshops are 3 hours in duration and will take place on Thursdays.
  • All equipment, computers etc will be provided
  • Delivered on-site in your school
  • The workshops and resources are free of charge
  • Workshops are delivered by professional DJ and music artists who are also experienced educators
 
School requirements
  • Select 20 highly able or interested students from years 5 to 9.
  • Provide a room with desks and chairs
  • Provide a teacher for the duration of the workshop.
  • Apply by completing the online form

Student selection
  • For the purposes of the series, high ability refers to students who are performing or capable of performing a year or more ahead of the expected level of the curriculum.
  • Students deemed by their school to be high ability can be nominated to participate by teachers. Teachers are asked to use their professional judgement in making this assessment.  Potential Soul Sonics participants
  • include  music, media, technology students
  • If you have students in your classroom who would benefit from participating in activities within the series, you should discuss this with your school's high-ability practice leader. If your school is yet to nominate a high-ability practice leader, you should speak to your school principal.

Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series
The Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series provides funded extension activities for high-ability students in Victorian government schools from Prep to Year 12.

​Within the series, education expert partners are delivering a suite of face-to-face and virtual incursions and excursions, such as workshops, tutorials, conferences, lectures and competitions, across all areas of the curriculum that are free of charge.
