MUSICAL FUTURES TEACHING RESOURCES

Musical Futures International has over 100 paid and free resources that are available to teachers.
Currently the resources are available in two forms:

Online  - these resources are accessed by a web link and can be use in any location or on any connected device.   These resources               include  newest versions of our many resources that were previously available on Powerpoint downloads  as well as all new                           resources like the Play Now series.

Download - these resources are a combination of PowerPoint and PDF's and are accessed via a download.  We are progressively              updating these resources for online delivery

Simply click the group of resources you are interested in. Most resources have a number of units included while individual resources (like play alongs) include a description covering genre, chords and song brief background.  Most resources also include a  sample video.

There is a brief description of each resource below the images and a 'road map' of how each type of resource connects or underpins  the Musical Futures approach and goal of developing independent music leaners.

There are also a number of free sources available for teachers here.

There is also an Resources Guide which provides information of the content of the Play alongs and Play Now resources including artist, key, chords, level of difficulty and other information that will help you select a resource.

RESOURCE DESCRIPTORS

Play alongs:  Musical Futures play alongs are a key 'first access' resources that can be  used in conjunction with Just Play or as an extension to the Everyone Can Play resources or as used as stand alone materials. The are designed  for multi instrument use  in either whole class or small group settings.

Play Now: Play Now resources provide support and guidance where it is likely necessary to assist learning but leaves room for students to examine, experiment and problem solve their own outcomes in preparing their performance of a chosen song.

Chair drumming:
resources introduce rhythm, beat and groove to the classroom. All that is required are some chairs (substituting for the drum kit) and some sticks- we normally recommend chop sticks to replace drum sticks for almost free music making

Everyone Can Play:  is conceived as a whole-class single-instrument foundation resource.  Everyone Can Play resources are currently available for ukulele, guitar and bass guitar (Everyone Can Play Keyboard will be released in March 2021).  The resources are designed for use in primary schools with students from around the age of 8 onwards.

Groove Your Classroom:  takes drum kit rhythms and allocates them across common classroom percussion instruments.
Classroom workshop are then built around those grooves giving the piece a particular groove or energy from which to build the whole class composition and improvisation.

Musical Futures Styles: Styles is a deep dive into understanding what it is to make music authentically.  What makes the blues
blues-y or funk funky?  The resource includes whole class activities similar to Groove Your Classroom but add features like play alongs and additional specific elements relevant to a particular style or song - riffs, scales, chords, playing techniques etc. for each instrument.
