2022
Training and Professional DevelopmentProgram

FACE TO FACE WORKS TO RESUME IN 2022
We are intending  to resume face-to-face workshops during 2022 around Australia.  We are waiting advice from education authorities before confirming new workshop dates and locations though hope to resume our programs from late March onwards.
While the goal of Musical Futures is to deliver relevant, engaging music to students in the middle years of learning the method is to work with teachers to develop a range of skills and approaches that achieve that goal.  We sometimes put it this way, "if they won't learn the way we teach, can we teach the way they learn?"  The answer is of course, yes and attending a Musical Futures workshop is the first step in understanding how.

The 2019 workshop program is still being finalised.  Additional dates and locations will be added during December 2018 for commencement in February 2019.  You can register your interest in attending a Musical Workshop near you.  Just click here.

Professional Development Workshops

Option 1: Just Play - laying the foundations of your whole class music program
Aimed at students aged between 8-11, the approach involves practical music making as a whole class that starts with music students like and engage with and starts from and builds on music they like, recognise and engage with.  Learn more about Just Play.

Option 2: Groove Your Classroom/New Grooves - classroom workshopping
These workshops concentrate on the building blocks on the Musical Futures approach - informal learning and non formal teaching. The day is one of active music making.  Learn more about Informal Learning and Non formal teaching and New Grooves.

Option 3:  Songwriting Workshops for Teachers
The focus as the name suggests is on songwriting in the classroom. Whole class and small group approaches that include ‘class’ song styles as well as rap and hip hop.  Learn more about Songwriting.

Option 4:  Find Your Voice
This  option builds on the Musical Futures fundamentals but focuses on using vocals in your classroom.  Like the Groove Your Classroom  and Just Play the day is full of practical music making.  Learn more about Find Your Voice

Option 5:  OnCue
The focus of OnCue is on improvisation and composition using whole class approaches.  Learn more about OnCue.

Option 6:  Online workshop program
While COVID continues to limit gatherings like PD days and travel we are running a series of online workshops and webinars through Musical Futures International.  For more information click here.

Who should attend?

Musical Futures training and PD days are open to anybody – from classroom teachers and peripatetic teachers, to instrumental music specialists, community musicians, students, and other arts and education professionals. A Musical Futures Australia PD is 100% participatory and presented by experienced, innovative classroom music teachers.

A Musical Futures PD workshop not only provides information about Musical Futures, but enables you to appreciate how Musical Futures can and does work in an individual school situation. Courses provide an opportunity to explore the Musical Futures approaches through practical workshops, as well as the chance to network and share best practice and resources.

Each PD option includes a full set of materials and resources to take away and apply immediately in your classrooms.
