Workshops for Pre-Service Teachers

inquire about a pre service teacher worksHop

Support for new and soon-to-be graduate teachers

Musical Futures regularly undertakes workshops with pre-service primary generalist and music specialist teachers in partnership with the training institution.

Part of the Musical Futures ethos is that the programs, approaches, materials and resources are created by teachers, for teachers.  With that in mind Musical Futures is pleased to be able to work with pre service teachers across the country and assist them in their preparations for entering the classroom.

Over the past two years we have developed a number of workshops for both general primary pre-service teachers as well as specialist music (primary and secondary) pre-service teachers.  These workshops are designed to fit into tertiary timetable and range in length from 90 minutes to 3 hours and cover a range of activities such as:
  • Foundational instrumental skills in the classroom (Just Play)
  • Informal learning and non-formal teaching approaches
  • Classroom workshopping and improvisation (Groove Your Classroom)
  • Vocals (Find Your Voice) and
  • Songwriting

These are essentially taster versions of the full day workshops offered to schools and teachers across the country but an overlay designed to assist and prepare trainee teachers for the classroom.

Student teachers also receive a free package of materials and resources to take away and that they can use immediately upon entering the classroom or during their next teaching placement.

All pre- service teacher workshops are available in most capital cities by arrangement between the Institution and Musical Futures Australia.  For more information about content and scheduling please contact Ken Owen, via email or call 0411 694 710.
